My Core Values
Throughout life and leadership, I am guided by the values I hold close and which inform the way that I wish to live and think about life. They resonate with my personality, beliefs about the world, life philosophy, and personal core values.
Community is one such value that is incredibly important to me. Community brings people together, emphasizing relationships and collaboration. I have found great support and inspiration in communities I have been a part of, and recognizing the value of this in my own life has encouraged me to be actively engaged in building community and contributing back to those which have influenced me. I have a strong sense of Personal Integrity and through my behavior seek to be genuine towards myself and others. Integrity is something I deeply respect in people. I value Acknowledgement in terms of its representing an attitude of respect, open-mindedness, and awareness—a recognition of the differences in background and perspective that each individual brings. This also incorporates a recognition of and respect for the interdependent nature of the world and people in it: the idea that we all have the ability to touch the lives of others with our words and actions, and the responsibility to be mindful of how we go about that. Health has become increasingly important to me as I consider what I want to do in the future. It encompasses not only my personal health and that of my loved ones, but the health of communities and the need for advocacy in health. Health is a theme I see embedded in the well-being of society and all of the world. It is relevant to the current needs of the world, both regarding people in the sense of healthcare, and the environment in the sense of sustainability and conservation. Throughout my education and life I want to strive to apply myself in ways that are meaningful. This means putting my best effort forward and being open and embracing of opportunities for enriching and enlightening experiences that may broaden my horizons or understanding. I value lifelong learning and Intentional and Thoughtful Engagement, which has become a theme of my journey into my own philosophy of leadership as I discover what my passions and priorities are and how to incorporate those into my life.
The leadership identities I have chosen to represent myself and the experiences I’ve had weave in these core values as well. They highlight the ways in which I want to impact the world, the strengths I feel I have, and the skills I want to develop further in order to do so. Through collaboration I seek to bring people together, promoting cooperation and productive, welcoming, and encouraging communities. Through contribution I am an active and engaged member of society, giving back to those who have supported me and paying it forward with the intention of influencing the lives of others in positive ways. Through connection I seek to link people and opportunities, as well as finding connections in my own life—connection serves as an investment in lifelong learning, helping others, and building relationships.
I feel fulfilled when I invest in others, and I am motivated by the building of valuable relationships rich in trust and respect. I want to promote a culture and community of collaboration, contribution, and connection. In the future, I want to be an active member of my community, encouraging collaboration and receptiveness to new ideas and alternative viewpoints, and being intentional and compassionate in my interactions and the impact I have on others.
